Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vegetables and houseplants, along with soil, mulch, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries often grow part of their own stock and carry varieties that do well in the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Wholesale nurseries and growers sell to landscapers and sometimes to the public at volume prices; tree nurseries sell balled-and-burlapped and container trees and can deliver and plant large specimens. Specialty growers focus on bonsai, cactus and succulents, orchids or native plants, and hydroponics stores sell lights, nutrients and systems for growing indoors.

Cupertino is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Cupertino is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

A few months ago, I bought 3 pimiento pepper plants from Yamagami. After taking care of them throughout the season, they turned out to be jalapeños! It’s not about the money, but I spent the entire growing season and garden space to grow a plant I don’t need. It’s too late to replace them and get the peppers I need. Now I won’t be able to make my romesco sauce this year. Not cool!

I’ve been a customer of this local garden center for a long time, but my recent experience was incredibly disappointing. I purchased a Persimmon tree for about $120 Jan 2026, only to have it snap clean off at the graft union—a clear indicator of a structurally weak or failed graft from the supplier. When I reached out for support or a replacement, the staff was completely dismissive. They refused to take any responsibility for the tree’s structural failure. To make matters worse, they actually suggested I check if SummerWinds Nursery had the tree in stock instead of offering a solution. They are happy to take your money but will not stand behind the quality of their plants. I’ve had to spend additional money on stakes, garden ties, and grafting tape to perform "emergency surgery" on the tree myself just to try and save my investment. I expected much better accountability from a premium nursery like Yamagami’s. I will not be coming back.

l've been a loyal customer of this nursery for quite some time and have consistently spent hundreds if not thousand of dollars on plants throughout the seasons. This spring was no exception: I purchased a large number of plants, some of which were planted immediately, while others remained in their containers until I could get to them. Out of dozens of plants, only two did not survive. I came back to the nursery and politely asked if it would be possible to exchange them. To my surprise, the interaction with the manager was unnecessarily tense. Instead of a calm and solution-oriented approach, I was met with irritation and was scolded about plant care, despite the overall success of the majority of my purchases. I was also told there was no guarantee I would receive store credit, which felt disproportionate given the situation and my history as a customer. While I was shopping for more plants, the tone remained dismissive. In the end, store credit was issued, but the interaction left an unpleasant impression-especially over two small containers. I hesitated to write this review, but I believe it's important. Customer service matters just as much as product quality. A respectful,

Went in to buy gardening gloves, asked if they have cat-safe and shade tolerant plants (the worst combo), it turned into a collaborative 3-person staff quest to find the answer. Very helpful and dedicated staff to ensure I did not kill my plants or my cats. Walked out with gloves, 3 plants and 50$ less in my bank account.
